The PREP Method: How to Structure Your Thoughts Under Pressure

Pressure exposes weak structure. When you are thinking live, you need a framework simple enough to remember and strong enough to keep your answer moving forward.

The PREP framework

PREP stands for Point, Reason, Example, Point. Start with your answer, explain why it matters, ground it in a concrete example, then restate the answer cleanly.

Why it works

PREP prevents rambling because it gives every sentence a job. You are no longer searching for the next thing to say. You are moving through a short sequence that keeps your listener oriented.

How to practice it

Pick a simple prompt and answer it in under 45 seconds. Repeat the same prompt until the structure becomes automatic. Speed matters less than clarity.
